The \u00ab\u00a0Port Terminal (road + canal)\u00a0\u00bb project in Pommeroeul (Hainaut) is one of the 25 pilot sites where the CO2 performance scale is being tested. It is being carried out by our client Socogetra, in temporary association with Besix, on behalf of SPW Infrastructures.<\/p>\n

But let’s come to the subject of this dossier. In concrete terms, what does it mean to reduce CO2 emissions on a building site and what measures have been taken in this respect? \u00ab\u00a0First of all, it is important to know that this CO2 performance scale was in the specifications. This scale has five levels and for this project, it was level 3 that was targeted,\u00a0\u00bb explains Corentin de Waleffe, the site manager.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0We were helped and supported by Atrasol, a company specialising in measuring and reducing CO2 emissions on construction sites. Atrasol carried out an assessment, an understanding and a follow-up of these emissions in order to draw up a map,\u00a0\u00bb he adds.<\/p>\n

Indeed, Atrasol is a company that assists construction professionals in implementing sustainable and eco-responsible solutions to reduce CO2 emissions from their construction sites. Thanks to their expertise, they were able to help Socogetra and Besix implement concrete measures to reduce the carbon footprint of the Port Terminal site.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0There are four main approaches to take when committing to reducing CO2 emissions on site,\u00a0\u00bb explains Corentin de Waleffe. \u00ab\u00a0The first is to assess, understand and monitor these emissions in order to draw up a map. The second approach is to work on the energy efficiency of the machinery and equipment used on the site. The third approach is to reduce waste and encourage recycling. Finally, the fourth approach is to favour the least polluting transport and materials.<\/p>\n

Atrasol helped Socogetra and Besix to implement these different approaches on the Port Terminal site, with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions and minimising the environmental impact of the site.<\/p>\n

In conclusion, thanks to Atrasol’s expertise and the implementation of these different measures, the Pommeroeul Port Terminal site is a concrete example of the possibility of reducing CO2 emissions on building sites.
